Kemin- Improving the quality of life
Kemin’s humble beginnings and Global Reach
Kemin was a product of R.W. and Mary Nelson’s dream which took shape in the year 1961. The Couple aimed to develop innovative agricultural products and market them throughout the Midwestern United States. However the business grew beyond their expectations.
In the late 1960s, Kemin was exporting products to distributors only in the United Kingdom, Holland and Spain. Within five years, growing demand for Kemin products led to the establishment of Kemin’s first regional headquarters in Herentals, Belgium in 1970.
In 1980, R.W. and Mary’s son, Dr. Chris Nelson, now President and CEO — joined Kemin as Research & Development Director in Europe. Mr. Nelson brought a renewed focus and the company expanded beyond the animal feed industry.
Kemin grew its operations in 1980s and opened up offices in Asia. In 1988, the second regional headquarters was established in Singapore, followed by manufacturing and sales operations in Zhuhai, China in 1994. Two years later, Kemin established operations in Chennai, India. In 2004, Kemin spread its arm in Brazil to cover South America.
